Scores of Kyambogo students are reported to have missed exams due to the new late registration penalties.
According to the new policy, Kyambogo students have to pay a surcharge of UGX50,000 for late registration.
The new policy that was only introduced towards the end of the semester has left many cursing.
Tumwine Serge, the institution’s guild president told the Bee that the ‘unfair’ surcharges that resulted into many missing out exams.
Serge says students can’t pay the surcharge since their parents had already paid tuition, and calling them over surcharges would look like a scum.
In his letter dated September 14th, 2022, Serge has appealed to the university vice chancellor to pardon those that were caught with forged permits.
“The university management should have a leveled ground to hear complaints from students who have committed and paid a reasonable amount of tuition in order for them to sit for their papers.” Part of the letter reads.
Though the number is yet to be confirmed, Serge says over 500 students have missed exams due to failure to pay late registration surcharges.
Kyambogo University students are required to enroll and register on the university system in the first weeks of each semester.
However, some students tend to delay the registration process, a thing that they will now be penalized for.
Kyambogo University guild has given management a one day ultimatum to solve the students’ challenges.
