Kyambogo University marked a significant milestone on April 4th, 2025, with the official handover from the 5th to the 6th University Council. The ceremony, held at Hotel Africana, was attended by key stakeholders including the Chancellor, outgoing and incoming council chairpersons, university staff, and former council members.
In a symbolic and orderly transition, outgoing 5th Council Chair Dr. Nakabugo Goretti formally handed over leadership to Associate Professor Wabwire Mangeni, who now assumes the role of Chairperson of the 6th Council. During his address, Dr. Nakabugo praised the outgoing council’s achievements and emphasized the importance of a peaceful transition, the sustainability of past accomplishments, and the need for continued progress.
Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maria Musoke commended the 5th Council for their exceptional work and the smooth transition process. She urged the incoming 6th Council to prioritize research and innovation, quality assurance, and the integration of artificial intelligence within university systems. Prof. Musoke also highlighted the necessity of revising the university’s strategic plan to align with emerging priorities.
Guest of Honour, Chancellor Prof. John Ssebuwufu Okedi, underscored the critical role of science and technology education in reinforcing Kyambogo’s identity. In his remarks, he expressed gratitude to the outgoing council and pledged his continued support to the new leadership. Prof. Okedi stressed that leadership is a collective endeavor, urging the council to work collaboratively for the benefit of the university community.
The handover ceremony stood as a testament to continuity, unity, and a renewed commitment to excellence in higher education governance at Kyambogo University.
