As the semester and academic year 2017/2018 kicks off next week for the Kyambogo fraternity, a new upgrade has been as CCTV cameras have been installed all around the campus.
These cameras have been staged at different convenient and busy points of campus like at the Senate roundabout and the main gate.
In an exclusive with HE Joseph Ochieng the guild president, a lot of unpleasant and sad scenarios have happened within the campus premises, but all the perpetrators have gone scot-free because of lack of a clear tracking system in the past times. Ochieng told Campus Bee that they are not about to allow these same criminal activities go unpunished again.
“These cameras have been installed at a time when conmen are on the rise within campus. Also, many times, Banda boys who masquerade as KYU students have ignited strikes and destroyed property which bounces back to the students, so this is coming as a counter measure to track down all crimes that happen within campus,” Ochieng explained.
He continued to thank the university administration that has worked hand in hand with the guild office to tackle the problem of insecurity within the university and he promised that soon more street lights will be put up.
Meanwhile, Kyambogo freshers are expected to report today so as to kick off with their orientation program that will run up to Friday next.
