James Kazungu Alupo, 36 a lecturer at Uganda’s second largest university, Kyambogo, has been charged by Nakawa magistrates’ court for attempted murder when he poured acid on his lover.
40-year-old Judith Agole Dirisi testified that Kazungu approached her in 2011 after the death of her husband claiming he was a friend to the late and he offered to help her with the feeding and educations of her 3 children after which they started a relationship.
Agole who can only walk with support from two people says she decided to move in with Kazungu in 2014 at their home in Kizungu, Kirinya- Bweyogerere but he failed to fully takeover the responsibilities as the man in the home.
Agole says this prompted her to end the relationship and leave the home on 28th/October 2017 but Kazungu resisted and asked her for another chance to make things right. However on that same day at around midnight as Agole was coming back from her work place, a supermarket. On entering the house she realized Kazungu was standing right behind her and as she attempted to turn and talk to him he poured acid on her that burnt her face, breasts, arms and thighs.
Even though Kazungu tried to help her get admitted to Kirudu hospital, she managed to file a complaint at Kirinya police post which arrested Kazungu but he was later granted bail by Nakawa magistrate’s court.
Agole continues to leave in fear thinking she may face Kazungu’s wrath for the second time.
