It almost seems like the end of the road for James Kazungu Aluko, a lecturer at Kyambogo University, after three Court of Appeal justices decided to uphold an 8year jail term handed to him after he was found guilty of attempting to murder his wife by pouring acid on her.
Mr. Kazungu was indicted with attempted murder, doing grievous harm, and sentenced to serve 8 years imprisonment by the Nakawa Magistrate’s Court. Dissatisfied with the ruling, he appealed to the High Court but the conviction was upheld and the sentence of 8 years was not interfered with.
Still unhappy with the decision of the High Court, Kazungu filed a second appeal against only the sentence. The Court of Appeal, the second highest appellate court upheld the sentence saying the appellant is a lecturer at Kyambogo University who is well educated and knew what he was doing.
It is alleged that on October 28th, 2017 at Namataba village, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District, Kazungu attempted to cause the death of his wife by pouring acid on her. This is after his wife asked him to leave her house after a serious quarrel between the couple.
