Lecturers of Kyambogo University have today laid down their tools (read strike) in a bid to agitate for salary increment.
The lecturers that pitched camp at the university premises have refused to lecture the students on recess and also supervise those on Internship training.
The lecturers today decided to lay down their tools after efforts of negotiating with the University administration seemed futile.
“They have practically ignored us and they seem not interested in increasing on our salary. Even after enormous negotiations with them over the matter, its today that we shall not be of any service till our concerns are adhered to”, noted one lecturer.
The University had earlier last week released a statement planning on increasing the fees charged on accommodation, luckily, the Vice Chancellor, PROF. John Ssebuwufu stepped in and halted the move citing inappropriate quorum.
The lecturers have decided to lay down tools and not to do anything at all till their salaries are increased. It should be noted that it’s the same lecturers that strike-d last year over salary increase but were merely promised without delivery.
“We are going to handle the matter and the a meeting for the council has been called to handle this issue. This matter has been there for a while now but as regards the current financial situation, no action could have been taken until the matter settled but all will be settled”,noted the Prof. Lawrence Madete in a phone interview with Campusbee.
