Lecturers at Kyambogo University have threatened to lay down their tools if the management of the university doesn’t consider giving them extra allowances for evening and weekend programs.

This was communicated by the General Secretary of Kyambogo University Academic Staff Association Emma Wandera who said that the university should consider giving them extra allowances for teaching beyond 12 hours.

Wandera further said that initially, the staff was teaching for only 10 hours a week and were paid for all extra hours which isn’t the case of recent.

The lecturers have vowed that starting next week, they will only be teaching for 12 hours under the normal teaching load beyond which they won’t attend classes.

Kyambogo University has over 10000 students who are studying on evening and weekend programs. These are likely to be negatively affected when the lecturers neglect them to focus on those studying during the day.
