Kyambogo University’s management has formed a partnership with China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) to collaborate on internships, graduate employment, joint research, and technology transfer, among other programs.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, speaking at a consultative meeting held in the University Council room, said that this is a good opportunity because Kyambogo University is Uganda’s largest engineering university, and that it would generate knowledge in oil and gas as well as lead to Human Resource Development.
In this relationship, he believes Kyambogo University and CNOOC will organize and promote collaborative online public lectures where Engineering students may attend and learn more about what is going on in the sector.
Dr. Catherine Wandera, Dean Faculty of Engineering, stated during her presentation at the consultative meeting that potential areas of collaboration would include curriculum review, establishment of relevant training facilities, industrial training attachment (internship), research (joint identification of relevant research topics and data collection), and student mentoring.
Staff exchanges will also take place as part of the partnership, allowing academic staff to participate in CNOOC activities and trainings, and CNOOC staff to participate in Kyambogo Universities activities.
Graduate trainees will also be provided by Kyambogo University to CNOOC.
