The Senate examinations committee at Kyambogo University has for a long time been warning students about examination malpractice.
The students who were caught cheating during last semester’s (semester two 2020/2021) examinations were summoned to the 17th session of the 48th examinations committee meeting that took place on 10th June 2022.
Although the committee had threatened the students with expulsion from the University once they were caught cheating, it has instead given the culprits a fairer punishment.
These students have been given a dead semester one 2021/2022.
This simply means that they will resume their studies next semester two 2021/2022 and then study the missed semester the next academic year, semester one. For those who are in their final year now, they will not be able to graduate with their classmates but rather with the class group following them.
This has been done by the academic registrar’s office to send a very serious warning to every student who has one time thought of cheating. For the lucky ones who were not caught, as they say, not every day is a Sunday.
