Alinaitwe Douglas Raymond, a second year student at Kyambogo University perusing a Bachelors degree in science – Oil and Gas production has jotted an open letter to the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Museveni seeking support for a Masters’ Degree in China.
Lately, the President has been supportive of Science studies as evidenced in his public engagements arguing that the scientists deserve better.
Douglas expects to graduate by January, 2023 and subsequently transfer to the China University of Petroleum to pursue a Master’s degree in Oil and Gas Development.
“Your Excellency, I highly need your financial assistance to reach this goal. I have found it frustrating where tuition and hostel fees became a burden to me ever since by parent lost his job during the corona virus pandemic period and even resorted to alcohol addiction thus can’t even afford any of the university expenses,” he noted.
Using his foresight, Douglas sought the Presidential intervention after trying multiple futile options yet time is never enough to effect presidential pledges given the inevitable bureaucratic procedures.
“Previously, I have tried applying for scholarships, grants, student loan scheme but things never worked out. I even knocked doors of several potential well-wishers but none of them have been generous to help me out, thus coming out with the unconventional decision to write to you,” Douglas explained his struggle.
A response is yet to come from the in-charge but what is certain is that a one Alinaitwe Douglas Raymond relentlessly pleaded to the fountain of honor in the land with a seemingly simple request;
“Your Excellency, Can I have a chance to continue to learn.”
