News reaching our desk is that Uganda’s second largest public university; Kyambogo is to host the East African University Debate Championship (EAUDC) 2018. The official announcement and launch is set to take place on Friday 17th February 2018.
This comes in after the East African University Debate Council which is composed of various debate councils from various countries like Uganda Debate Society, National Tanzania Rhetoric Organization, Aspire Debate Rwanda and the Kenya National Debate Council announced Kyambogo University winners of the open bid process that attracted various Ugandan universities to bid. Among the Ugandan universities that bid to host this year’s East African University Debate Championships included Busitema, Makerere and Ndejje university- of which Kyambogo emerged winners .
This event was last year hosted by University of Rwanda where Mt Kenya University (Kigali campus) emerged winners of the debate competition followed by this year’s host also Uganda’s second largest public university, Kyambogo.
Debate Launch
The chief guest of the debate launch Which is happening next week Saturday 17th February is the Rht Hon Kirundi Kiveijinja, the second Prime Minister and Minister for the East Africa Community Affairs.
The main event will run from the 1st till the 9th August at Kyambogo University’s Central Teaching Facility (CTF). This year’s competition and activities will run on a theme; “regional integration, driving innovation and competitiveness for sustainable development.”
Over 80 universities from all over East Africa are expected to turn up for EAUDC and from Uganda; Kyambogo, Makerere, Ndejje and Uganda Christian University are expected to attend. From Kenya, University of Nairobi, Catholic University of East Africa and Moi University are expected. Mzumbe university , University of Tanzania, Mbeye University of Science and Technology and Mwalimu Julius Nyerere University are expected from Tanzania and lastly from Rwanda, University of Kigali, University of Rwanda and University of Gitwe.
Lots of activities are expected to take place including debates, public speaking competitions, students’ symposiums and panel discussions to engage the public in discussion on public integration.
