Kyambogo University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amalgamated Banks of South Africa (Absa bank Uganda) to enable students and staff purchase laptops and computers in installments in a move that is meant to ease online learning experience.
According to Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, the vice chancellor of Kyambogo University, “this arrangement is key to making learning more efficient and providing students with access to a wide pool of resources online, expanding their access to knowledge.”
The M.o.U was signed by Prof. Eli Katunguka on behalf of Kyambogo University and Mumba Kalifungwa the Managing Director (MD) of ABSA bank Uganda .
Mumba applauded the arrangement, revealing how hard it has become for students to access online learning equipment like laptops despite the many benefits of e-learning.
“As a digital forward bank, we believe that digital learning increases access to education and knowledge while empowering students,” he said.
According to this M.o.U, as explained by Mumba, the laptops, computers and other related accessories will be acquired by the university staff and students on a loan basis with payments done in installment.
Applicants will get up to 5 million Uganda Shillings with a flexible repayment period of up to 36 months. All laptops acquired will be insured against theft.
This goes hand in hand with the recent Makerere University “funa ka laptop program” that was launched between Makerere University and Stanbic Bank to help students purchase laptops on an almost similar installment basis.
