A section of year four students under the faculty of engineering were chased out of the examination room because they had fake examination cards and unpaid tuition.
This happened on Wednesday 7th September 2022.
Senior examination supervisors have been given gadgets to scan examination documents to differentiate fake from original following allegations that students who have not been able to complete tuition payments tend to forge examination permits.
About eleven students were found guilty of sitting for the examination with fake permits and subsequently chased out of the examination room.
It is also alleged that among the eleven students, some were as well accused of examination malpractice in form of impersonation.
The Director of ICT, Dr. John Okuonzi had through a press conference held last week addressed such issues as explained above.
“Some students share examination cards with those who have not cleared tuition who end up photocopying and forging out examination permits. However, that will no longer be effective or helpful for we have advanced in ICT and examination supervisors will be given gadgets to scan examination cards to differentiate fake from original. Examination cards have QR codes which can easily be linked to the student’s portal information. Students with fake cards will definitely be caught,” Dr. John Okuonzi warned.
According to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka, the penalty for such an offence is cancellation of the examination. This, he said, during his address to the Press alongside the Director of ICT last week.
Students who still hope to sit for examinations with the help of fake examination cards are advised to make full tuition payments such that they can be able to print out examination cards directly from the portal in order to avoid unpredictable situations such as the one already described.
Caution regarding examination malpractice should also be taken seriously.
As the VC said last week, “Students tend to believe cheating is okay until they are caught.”
