What began as a meeting to discuss the outsourcing policy for government students by the Parliamentary Committee on education and the administrators from the nine public universities in Uganda took twists when Professor Fabian Nabugwomu, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance at Kyambogo declared that the University is set to import about 10 to 15 science lecturers from Cuba to fill the deficit in the engineering department.
More news reaching our desk indicates that the University council has signed an agreement with the Cuban government to import these science experts to teach engineering in a bid to improve the quality of human resource and academic proficiency at the University.
These lecturers will be paid 7 million shillings a month. “There has been a big deficit of engineering lecturers at the University. We believe that with the importation of these experts, this gap will be filled,” Prof. Nabugwomu declared.
However, some members of parliament including Luuka South MP Steven Kiiza were not happy with this decision due to the current obsession by the government with Cuban human resource and experts.
This comes after the president declared that he would import Cuban medical doctors since the Ugandan doctors acted selfishly and arrogantly.
