Kyambogo University is preparing to host the 5th International CHAUKIDU conference. CHAUKIDU is a Swahili acronym which stands for Chama cha Ukuzaji wa Kiswahili Duniani which literally translates in English as Global Association for the Promotion of Swahili.
The conference will commence on 13th December and end on 15th December at Kyambogo University with the main topic: “The Worldwide Development of Kiswahili and the sustainability of other African Languages.”
It is a conference that brings together all the Global Swahili speaking people, scholars and stakeholders in the Swahili language.
CHAUKIDU was launched and had its constitution promulgated on April 26, 2012 in a meeting of Swahili lovers at the University of Wisconsin, Madison-USA. It was first housed at the University of Georgia, the workstation of its first President as the constitution demanded.
This association was mainly formed to speedily develop the Swahili language across the world as well as connect the diaspora with East and Central Africa.
This conference has been held in various universities with its first ever conference in East Africa being held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi-Kenya in 2016. It was also held at Howard University in Washington D.C.
Many dignitaries are expected to turn up at this event. We have not yet established full information of what one needs to participate in this conference but we hope to get it soon. For more information, go to CHAUKIDU website and find out.
