Kyambogo University led by Vice Chancellor Professor Eli Katunguka has today December 6 officially issued a physical apology to the Muslim fraternity through Uganda Muslims Students Association leaders over an incident that happened where university security forced Muslim ladies to remove their veils.
“The Vice Chancellor, @EliKatunguka today met the leadership of the Uganda Muslim Students Association who had come to acknowledge his apology,” Kyambogo University remarked in a Tweet.
Last week, the administration of Kyambogo University come out to condemn the police officer who told a Kyambogo Muslim female to remove her veil in order to be searched at the entrance of the university examination hall.
Female Muslim students had as well complained of discomfort during security checks before accessing the university itself.
The Vice Chancellor Dr. Eli Katunguka admitted in a letter that the university doesn’t condone the manner in which the police officer carried out his duties as it was very demeaning to the Muslim community.
With today’s meeting with leaders of the Uganda Muslim Students Association, Prof Eli pledged full support of the female Muslim students and culture with hope that the embarrassment will not happen again.
