On Friday last week, the students of Kyambogo University cried out to the Guild President to put the Electoral Commission in charge of this year’s elections in place as soon as possible. This has not been done up to the current day and the students seem to be demoralized.
The Guild House was on Tuesday 22nd February expected to sit and put the Electoral Commission in place but this didn’t happen as it is alleged that the Vice Chancellor through one of the guild cabinet members didn’t allow the meeting to be held as earlier planned.
However, students have raised their voice in disagreement to this and have given the guild house a one-day ultimatum to put the Electoral Commission in place. Students have threatened to burn the Vice Chancellor’s messenger at his hostel, Madonna if their issue is not worked on. Some bitter students want the Dean of students and the Vice-Chancellor must resign.
The students, who are starting to lose patience are worried that they will not elect their new leaders since examinations are around the corner. The students want to elect and spare time to prepare for examinations that are scheduled to be held in the next three weeks.
Meanwhile, there was chaos in Banda as the FDC guild presidential Flagbearer, Serge Tumwine began his campaigns. Yesterday, he moved all around Banda with his supporters campaigning and this caused chaos in form of noise and traffic jam.
The question though still remains; For how long will the Aspirants campaign? Should they rather wait until the unending process of putting the Electoral Commission in place finally comes to an end?
