The 18th Guild Ministry of Academics and Professional Affairs in conjunction with the office of the Academic Registrar Kyambogo University have today 15th July 2022 intensified the campaign against examination malpractice that is to end on the 27th day of this month.

This comes ahead of end of semester one 2021/2022 examinations that are scheduled to begin on 8th August, which is less than three weeks from now.

Today has seen the examinations committee moving from lecture room to lecture room in a move to create sufficient awareness of the revised examination malpractice penalties.

News reaching our desk is that the entire examinations division and lecturers of the university have been worried about the increasing cases of examination malpractice as it was nearly out of control.

Extreme measures that are going to be put in place beginning with this semester’s examinations is that the university examinations council is going to outsource examination supervisors and invigilators to supervise the examination in the place of familiar examination coordinators and lecturers.

The penalties seem more severe than ever before for whoever will be caught cheating will be giving a not less than two academic years suspension.

In addition to that, if any of the caught students is either on government sponsorship or loans scheme or any other kind of scholarship, the sponsorship will be cancelled and all the privileges that come with that will be forgotten and missed dearly.

For the caught students who will attempt to destroy the evidence by either chewing or tearing the chits, the penalty will be much more severe as the examinations committee says.  Those will be given an indefinite suspension and it could take more than ten years before being re admitted to the university.

This kind of penalty also affects those that abuse the authority of the invigilators in the examination room.

The examinations division claims that the students have always taken the sympathy shown to them and the much less felt punishment given like just the cancellation of that specific examination.

If caught cheating in one paper, all the papers for the semester will be cancelled and yet still face a not less than two years suspension.

The forms of examination malpractice include carrying chits and handouts to the examination room, writing on body parts such as thighs, hands and arms, carrying unauthorized material for example phones and smart watches, prior knowledge of the examination paper, copying from a friend, impersonation, exchanging answer booklets and being helped by the supervisor.

Whoever won’t have an identity card will not be allowed into the examination room. Those who don’t have identity cards are advised to get police letters in advance.
