Tenywa Mercy, a 21-year-old from Kyambogo University, has been crowned the new tourism queen of Busoga region in Eastern Uganda.
Tenywa was crowned Busoga’s tourism queen at an event held at Kagulu hill on Saturday.
The 21-year-old is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in tourism and hotel management and her passion for tourism pushed her into participating in this year’s contest.
Kasoga Winnie (Bukhooli) emerged as first runner up and the second runner up was Naigaga Latifah (Bulamogi).
The crowning ceremony was graced by the Kyabazinga of Busoga William Nadiope, first deputy prime minister in charge of East African Affairs Hon. Rebecca Kadaga among others.
Tenywa, together with the first and second runners up, is expected to represent Busoga region in the ongoing search for the new national tourism queen.
Tourism queens from other regions will participate in a talent night on August 27th in Adjumani. The night will see some of the queens get eliminated.
The official crowning of the new miss tourism Uganda will be held on September 9th, 2023 at Serena hotel. The crown is currently carried by Sydney Nabulya Kavuma from Buganda.
