In an official announcement, Prof. M. Mpezamihigo, the Vice Chancellor of Kampala International University (KIU), has communicated a new mandatory requirement for all students to acquire personal laptops for the upcoming semester beginning in January 2024.
The message, addressed to all students, begins by congratulating them on the successful completion of the End of Semester Examinations for the academic year 2023/2024. It strongly emphasizes the necessity for students to possess personal laptops as essential tools for navigating the digital era effectively.
Prof. Mpezamihigo highlighted several reasons justifying this new mandatory acquisition. Firstly, having a personal laptop will provide students with access to a wide array of course materials and interactive learning resources. Additionally, it is expected to facilitate seamless communication between students and their lecturers, as well as among group members.
The directive coincides with the university’s plans to transition to a blended learning model for selected and cross-cutting courses starting in January 2024. Blended learning combines traditional face-to-face classroom methods with online learning components, providing a more flexible and technology-integrated approach to education.
Expressing the university’s wishes for a successful semester enriched with technology, the Vice Chancellor encourages students to comply with this new requirement, ensuring a smooth transition to the blended learning model. The university is expected to provide additional information and support to facilitate the acquisition of personal laptops by the students.
