A year after the brutal murder of Makerere University Alumnus David Ojok, the university has taken a rather shocking twist in stringing the case more. In the latest news coming in indicate that Makerere University through Kateera & Kagumire Advocates have filed a rebuttal and admitted the charges brought forth by the late’s family, that Ojok, a computer science graduate, was killed by a mob of students at the university’s Nkrumah Hall.
However, Makerere University argues that the late only lost his life because he was careless and negligent and that court should consider that as a factor in the judgement of the case.
“The defendant, without appearing as if it condones violence, shall state that the deceased was equally negligent for appearing at one of the defendant’s hall of residence at night about 10:00pm without any form of identification and without notifying the hall warden or custodian,” the university states.
This comes in accordance and response to the statement of defense filed at the civil division of the High Court in Kampala on July 27 and a response to a suit filed on April 11 at the same court by the family of the deceased.
The family of the slain alumnus David Ojok (RIP) are demanding Shs 2.5bn compensation from Makerere University after their son was brutally murdered.
