After appearing in Parliament on Friday May 31st in the morning, the body of slain former Makerere University Chancellor Prof Apollo Robin Nsibambi will be transported to the University Main Hall where a session will be held to pay tribute to the celebrated politician and academic who greatly shaped the future of many during his time of service at the Ivory Tower.
On the official Facebook page of Makerere University, the administration announced that his remains will arrive at exactly 5:00 PM where various lecturers, former students, former colleagues, workmates and key administrators of the university are expected to attend the session to pay their last respects to Prof. Nsibambi. The session will end at exactly 6:30 PM
Makerere University’s gesture in paying tribute to Prof. Nsibambi comes as no surprise to many since he has had a strong attachment to this institution during a great portion of his lifetime. He studied a Bachelor of Science in Economics at Makerere University and even worked at the university for a long time. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science at Makerere University and was in 1987 appointed as the Head of the Department of Political Science, a position in which he served until 1990. From 1994 to 1996, he served as the Director of the Makerere Institute of Social Research until he was appointed Prime Minister
On Monday, June 3rd, a vigil will be held at the home of Prof. Nsibambi. It will be followed by prayers for the deceased at St. Paul’s Namirembe Cathedral on Tuesday, June 4th at 9:00 AM and thereafter burial at his home in Buloba on the same day at exactly 4:00 PM
