Yasin Sentumbwe Munagomba, a former Law student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) was on Wednesday elected Guild President for Law Development Centre (LDC), Mbarara for the academic year 2020/2021. In 2018, Sentumbwe dragged UCU to court after he has unfairly expelled from the university for challenging the 12.5% tuition increment.
From the ruling of the justice Mutonyi Margaret “the manner in which the disciplinary process was handled was ruthless, unchristian, inhuman, degrading and lacking parental characteristic which is expected of student/lecturer relationship”.
Shortly after learning that he had emerged winner, Sentumbwe recorded an appreciation speech that has been making rounds on various social media platforms.
“I am more than delighted to be here and having been declared the President-elect for this academic year 2020/2021. I am more than thankful for the effort by the different individuals, different teams, firm leaders, and most importantly the students,” Sentumbwe said.
While celebrating his victory, Sentumbwe called for unity as he urged his supporters to tolerate his firmer opponents and move together as one. Sentumbwe vowed to deliver and continue fighting for issues that affect students.
“Do not look at anyone after today as an opponent but as former colleagues in the struggle. You have not voted for me, you have voted for the voice of students.” Sentumbwe urged the students.
