We are in for the new normal, as the Law Development Centre (LDC or the Centre) announces applications for the academic year 2020/2021 only for the applicants “willing and able to undertake online distance learning”.
Due to the onslaught of COVID 19, the LDC sought clearance from the National Council for Higher Education (NHCE) and was permitted to conduct “open, distance and e-learning”. In the announcement, LDC reveals that the Bar Course may be conducted entirely online or with a blend of both online and the traditional physical learning in accordance with the guidelines that have been issued by the NHCE. Already the current students are doing studies online.
In the same announcement, Campus Bee has learned that Lira Campus will be starting in the same academic year raising the number of campuses to three (3) including Kampala, and Mbarara to which LDC reserves the right to post an applicant to any of the campuses.
According to the announcement, these admissions are the “1st Intake” and it shall be conducted in the three campuses including new Lira. It is still unclear what 1st Intake implies, however, from the first impression, one can assume that LDC is introducing intakes for the course.
To be eligible, one needs to hold a degree in law from a university in Uganda that has an accredited law programme, and where the said intending applicant did law from a country other than Uganda, the country must be operating a common law system, is recognized by Law Council, and then the said applicant has to obtain clearance from the same authority.
