Muhumza Derrick, a fresh graduate from Law Development (LDC) is appealing to the public to help him raise 160m for a kidney transplant in India or Turkey before April 20th 2022.
Muhumuza developed severe hypertension in July 2021, which quickly worsened to the point where he collapsed one day. He was rushed to Mukono’s C.O.U Hospital, where he was referred to the Uganda Heart Institute.
Muhumuza was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease after being examined by specialists and subjected to a battery of tests. He had shown no signs of kidney disease prior to this diagnosis.
‘’I got the problem in July last year, I collapsed suddenly and lost consciousness. The Doctors at St. Francis Hospital Naggalama discovered I had a heart complication and they referred me to Mulago. The Nephrologist at Mulago examined me further and it was discovered that I had a chronic kidney disease,’’ Muhumuza revealed.
The first step was to start dialysis twice or three times a week, as recommended by a specialist at Mulago specialized National Hospital.
‘’Since July last 2021, I have been receiving treatment twice a week, and each time, I have been paying UGX 200,000. Currently, I get hemodialysis thrice a week. This costs me UGX 600,000 per week. My parents cannot afford it. I’m in great pain. I constantly get fever, headache and stomachaches. My legs are swollen because of the impurities in blood,’’ he added.
“I need $43,000 which is approximately 160M to have a kidney transplant in India or Turkey. I appeal to all Ugandans of good will, the legal fraternity, religious leaders, companies and organization to give me financial assistance for the treatment. The support can be sent to my mother’s mobile money account 0782902746 in the names of Magdalene Naggita,’’ Muhumuza requested.
