The Law Development Centre (LDC) has implemented the High Court ruling that barred a total of 100 lawyers who it said had sat their final supplementary examinations illegally.
Justice Lydia Mugambe on Monday held that court cannot interfere with the mandate of the LDC or any other institution to determine who has passed or failed and therefore noted that it cannot order for the release of the withheld results.
Consequently, management at LDC has come up with a number of measures ahead of today’s 47th graduation that include removing the withheld results from the institution’s official records.
“The applicants and other students in their predicament who failed some subjects at first sitting and also those who failed subsequent supplementary examinations (retakes) are free to apply to LDC to repeat the failed subjects in accordance with the applicable rules for passing the Bar Course.” Management said in a public notice to all students.
But according to LDC management, those students intending to repeat some subjects cannot do so in the current 2019/20 academic year but can join the Bar Course in the 2020/21 academic year or other subsequent years.
“An application to join the Bar Course to repeat subject(s) shall be submitted through the normal application process when LDC advertises for applications but they should inform the administration in advance in order to plan for them and the latest date should be 31st January 2020.”
“In 2020 LDC expects over 1,200 fresh applications from students completing the LL.B in 2020 from the various universities accredited to teach law. Allocation of campus shall be determined by the Admissions Board as part of the normal admission process. A student admitted to repeat a subject is expected to do so at the campus allocated by LDC.” Management concluded.
