The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Winfred Kiiza has visited the Parliament Library on a familiarization tour and also accessed information materials.
The Kasese Woman MP on Thursday, 21 June 2018 toured the different sections of the Library and interacted with staff and users. Kiiza was also shown the digitization unit where documents are scanned and uploaded onto the intranet for easy access by MPs and staff on their iPads and computers respectively.
The LOP was impressed with the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system that is used to allocate class numbers to books before being put on the shelves.
Kiiza urged legislators to utilize the library for research purposes which she said was important in their in their roles as MPs.
“I urge my colleagues to utilize these librarians so that they are informed because in this information age, institutions depend on information. In this case, this library is paramount for legislation to take place in Parliament,” she added.
The Parliament Library is a key source of information to MPs and the public. It has a wide range of information dating back to pre-independence time. Some of the available resources are agreements, Ordinances of the protectorate government, proclamations and gazettes among others.
