In a shocking turn of events, a 22-year-old Kabale University fresher has allegedly ended his life after missing his end-of-semester exams over unpaid tuition!
The deceased, identified as Victor Mugarura, was pursuing a Bachelor of Agriculture and Land Use Management and had just completed his first year. Sources say he was deeply stressed and frustrated after being blocked from sitting exams due to unpaid university fees.
But no one expected it would come to this.
On Wednesday, July 24, Victor reportedly took his mother’s phone and disappeared. His family began to worry. Later that evening, his sister tried calling the phone—and that’s when things took a chilling twist.
The ringtone was coming from Victor’s room.
When the door was opened, they found his lifeless body hanging above his bed. Tragic doesn’t even begin to describe the moment.
But what’s more haunting is the short, heartbreaking suicide note he left behind—scribbled out and left near the scene.

THE SUICIDE NOTE READS (VERBATIM):
“I am sorry for this disappointment but hope you will forgive me. I also didn’t expect it but this is what life is. Dear God forgive me all my sins (AMEN). LIFE IS SCUM. Yours, Mugarura Victor.”
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the matter is under investigation. The scene was examined, documented, and the body taken for postmortem.
Meanwhile, Kabale University has issued a statement confirming the death and expressing condolences to the family, friends, and student community.
“We regret the demise of our student, Mr. Victor Mugarura… Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” reads part of the university’s statement.
Victor’s tragic passing has sparked outrage and sorrow online, with many students calling for urgent mental health support and compassionate tuition policies across universities.
