According to the official website of Lira University, residents of Amolatar District have donated 400acres of land to the Northern Uganda centered university to open its branch there.
The Communities of Alemere Bung and Agwingiri subcounty donated 200 acres of land each, totaling to 400 acres, to Lira University in separate colourful ceremonies.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jasper Ogwal Okeng received the lands in two separate functions, where the community members danced, ululated and chanted, with requests for the university to establish a Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries in the district.
Prof. Ogwang Okeng, on behalf of Lira University, promised to put the donated land in good use by establishing its branch and develop the area.
Ogwal Okeng noted that being a Government institution, Lira University plans to open its branches in all districts of Lango sub-region and beyond. He added that the university will create cheap and easy access to higher education, good market for local commodities, labour and others for the people of Amolatar District.
