The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has okayed that Lira University starts enrolling students for her new master’s program, the first masters for the university, a year later after it was given a university status.
87 students have been admitted and are the pioneers of the Masters of Business Administration course that will be starting in this new academic year 2018/19. The program will be running for a period of two years.
Lira university was opened in August 2012 as a constituent college of Gulu University under the name “Gulu University Constituent College Lira”. It was after August 2016, that the institute attained a university status when the Ministry of Education severed it from the autonomy of Gulu University.
The program was launched at the university by Prof. Waswa Balunywa, the principal of Makerere University Business School (Mubs).
Before the new master’s programme was approved, the university was only offering Bachelors programs.
The new programme is an answer to the increasing demand for qualified students who have gone through all the levels of higher education especially in post graduate programs.
