Understanding the New UNEB Grading System

This year’s UCE results were released under the revised grading system, which replaces the traditional aggregate-based ranking with competency-based assessment. Candidates are now graded as follows:

  • A – Exceptional Achievement
  • B – Outstanding Performance
  • C – Satisfactory Performance
  • D – Basic Understanding
  • E – Elementary Understanding

The new system aims to focus on skills development rather than cutthroat competition among schools. Despite initial confusion among parents, UNEB and the Ministry of Education maintain that the reforms will enhance education quality and better prepare students for future careers.

Revised Grading System

Candidates are assessed as follows:

  • A – Exceptional Achievement (Equivalent to D1, D2)
  • B – Outstanding Performance (Equivalent to C3, C4)
  • C – Satisfactory Performance (Equivalent to C5, C6)
  • D – Basic Understanding (Equivalent to P7, P8)
  • E – Elementary Understanding (Equivalent to F9)

As the results continue to spark national discussions, schools, parents, and students alike are adapting to this new method of assessment. Congratulations to the top-performing schools and students!
