Ryan Mark Kirya and Amony Abigail were crowned Little Mr Pearl of Africa International and Miss Pearl of Africa International respectively. The pageant that was happening for the first time was held at the National Theatre auditorium on Sunday December 22.
The pageant had 8 girls competing for the top prize and Amony Abigail aged 14, a pupil from Pearl of Africa International School Entebbe became the overall winner taking home the crown of Miss Pearl of Africa International. The first runner up was 10 years old Tarana Sarosh from Taibah International School, Kawempe and Aliyah Soni aged 8 years from Pearl of Africa International school Entebbe was crowned 2nd runner up.
The Pageant is a product of Miss Tourism Uganda and the first edition was organized under theme “Cultural Diversity and Inclusion” and during the first edition, the parents came through to cheer their young ones as they battle it for the biggest crown of the night.
Other participants received certificates and special crowns like Miss Photogenic, Miss Popularity and Miss Heritage among others.
Before they crowned the winners, the 8 contestants took to the runway to introduce themselves on stage. They also came back for two sessions that included the talent showcase, cultural wear showcase and the question and answer session.
The judges asked questions in line with the theme and some of them were about animals and others about the Ugandan cultures. The young ones were ready for this session as they answered the questions the right way.
For the crown of Mr Pearl of Africa International, Ryan Mark Kirya was crowned for the purposes of inclusion after he was tested and approved prior to the day of the pageant. He was the only contender.
