Mbale District, being one of the district’s that are highly affected by floods, Livingstone International University, one of the universities in the low lands of the district has been forced to postpone its end of semester examinations due to the current situation.
The institution had planned to start its exams on Monday, 25th November 2019 but had to postpone to an unknown yet date due to a heavy rain that raised the institution on Saturday 23rd November and flooded the whole place. Among the rivers that flooded the university include Nabuyonga, Namunsi and Managua.
These floods destroyed many things that included paperwork, computers and the state of the art library which had been recently restocked leading to the university’s postponement of the exams until further notice. These floods didn’t only affect the university but also the nearby villages mostly those in the lower areas of Mbale and displaced many people.
“It was late in the night as we were sleeping in our halls of residence when I felt like I was floating within deep waters but I first thought it was a dream not until I woke up to realize that it was true.” One student at the university told Campus Bee.
“Indeed water was in our hall plus all other places of the university.” Derick Mesulam, a second year Media Technology student added. He also welcomed the idea of the university postponing exams as they still need time to recover from this shock.
The day on which exams are to start has not been confirmed yet.
