Makerere University’s 85th guild president Julius Kateregga was yesterday appointed by the Lord Mayor of Kampala, Erias Lukwago, to be the Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) representative to the Makerere University.
This automatically makes him a member of the Makerere University Council, which is the top decision making body of the University.
Kateregga, who is currently serving as the LC5 Councilor for Kawempe Division, will now be responsible for overseeing the interests of KCCA in the University and also support the voices of the stakeholders.
“My track record of fighting for students and other stakeholders at the Hill of endless possibilities is very clear. I want to continue the good work done by Her Worship, the deputy Lord Mayor. We must ensure that the students return to school and build the future in a better City. I also want to thank the Lord Mayor and fellow Lord Councilors for believing in me,” Kateregga remarked.
The Makerere University Council is made up of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, a representative from the Ministry of Education and Sports, a representative from the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, a representative from the Ministry of Labour, Gender and Social Development, two members appointed by the government, two members appointed by the University Council, a District Council Representative (KCCA), two Academic Staff representatives, a Senate representative, a Senate staff representative, an Administrative staff representative, a representative of the Support staff, two students’ representatives, a representative of the Convocation and two representatives of the persons with disabilities.
Kateregga has served on this body before when he was one of the Students’ Representatives during his time as Guild President.
