The Mitchellex Bazaar came to a rather chaotic end on Friday after exhibition of several acts of violence from the rival Lumumba Hall boys who kept disrupting the bazaar especially during the shows which required students to pay 5,000/- to enter.
But on the last night of the bazaar, Lumumba students raided the entrance of Mitchell with acts of extreme rowdiness, violence, village behavior while singing the Lumumba anthem and hurling insults at their arch rivals of Mitchell all with the aim of forcing their way in without paying.
This caused the police to unleash canisters of tear gas to disperse the crowds and the RGB (Rat Guard Brigade) a Mitchell student initiated security group decided to lock all entrances to the bazaar and only a few people would be allowed to leave periodically through side gates.
The Saturday morning came with a shock to exhibitors who found the entrance locked because the promoter of the bazaar, Badru Kakooza failed to pay the full amount for the Bazaar and members of the Mitchell Students Council Representatives (SCR) decided to lock the hall so that exhibitors who hadn’t paid could not take out their tents, tables and promotional equipment. It was locked until 5pm when the hall was opened.
