As the culture is at Lumumba and Mary Stuart towards the guild presidential elections, the two halls endorse one candidate who represents the Lumbox fraternity in the guild presidency race.
From the elections that were organized at Lumumba hall today Monday, July 4, the Lumumbox solidarity voted for Hussein Ibra, an NRM guild contender to compete in the forthcoming Makerere University guild elections.
Out of the 489 votes cast, Hussein garnered 392 votes beating his competitor, James Arinaitwe who scored only 69 votes and the rest of the 28 votes were invalid.
The victor won the election with a difference of 323 votes emerging as Lumumbox guild candidate to compete with other candidates in the 88th guild race.
According to ‘Team Hussein for Guild President’ led by Genius Ndamwesigwa, the Campaigning manager, their manifesto is laid on five points;
Enhancing support of the administration in University’s sports, forcing for increase on money given to government sponsored students, checking on the powers of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Creating jobs for fresh graduates through the office of Estates and Planning and Improving on the way marks and examination issues are handled.
Ndamwesigwa added that they are striving to end strikes at the university by engaging the administration through positive fruitful means.
“We have found out that some students are affected by the strikes in one way or the other, so as team Hussein, we are looking forward to end such strikes and instead engage the administration to solve students issues,” he said.
Hussein Ibra was the 87th Guild Representative Council (GRC) of Lumumba hall, and as well the Guild Minister of Social Affairs in the same government.
