Richard Tusiime, the proprietor of Madonna Hostel, Kyambogo, has been charged with treason, Campus Bee reports. Uganda Police Force on Wednesday charged Tusiime and his fellow Red Pepper directors plus the editors with treason, offensive communication and publication of a story that is prejudicial to the security of the country.
Tusiime, who also doubles as the CEO of The Pepper Publications (the publishers of The RedPepper tabloid) was on Tuesday arrested and detained in Nalufenya together with his co-founders; ArinaitweRugyendo, James Mujuni and Patrick Mugumya for publishing a false story that could lead to “grave implications on national and regional security and stability.”
Police says Red Pepper premises will remain cordoned off as they conduct investigations.
According to the company lawyer Denis Nyombi, police counter -terrorism squad swung into action and mounted a search both at Red Pepper offices and at the homes of the
directors and editors in question.
They were made to record statements and sign the charge sheet. They are accused of publishing a story which alleges President Yoweri Museveni is plotting to overthrow Rwanda President, Paul Kagame.
Madonna Hostel houses students from both Kyambogo University and Makerere University Business School [MUBS].
