As days to Makerere University’s 70th graduation draw closer, it’s evident that there’s a lot of pomp and excitement from the graduands as they get ready for the ceremony, each on their respective days.
However, it is also a dark world characterized by frustration and fury to the graduands under the MasterCard foundation. This follows the delays in payment of their graduation fee by the organisation to the Uganda Revenue authority.
Sources say that, for one under this foundation to be able to get the requirements for the graduation ceremony which include a gown, invitation card, among other things, he or she ought to present a receipt which clarifies that they have cleared the graduation fee, which is paid to URA by the organization.
It is now a week to the official start of the ceremony but nothing has been done to enable the graduands get receipts in order to get the requirements for graduation. Claims being made are that, MasterCard already paid the money but because they paid late, it hasn’t been reflected by the Uganda Revenue Authority, the reason why the process is taking long thereby putting the students’ graduation at stake.
This is the first incident of it’s kind and it’s partly because of the change in the system of paying money where they channeled all payments to be made through URA.
