After spending nearly a month behind bars, the Makerere University top administrator in the names of Edward Kisuzze was today 11th May released on a 2 million cash bail by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate James Mawanda Eremye.
Kisuzze was arrested on 13th April for allegedly assaulting a one Njoroge Rachael inside his office room number 507 in the Makerere University Senate Building. Kisuzze’s three sureties were ordered to sign a bond of 10 million shillings as one of the conditions for Kisuzze’s bail.
Before Kisuzze bail was granted, the state prosecutor Viola Tusingwire had objected this bail application saying that their side was ready to have the matter expeditiously heard. However, the defence counsel Stephen Senkeezi described the applicant (Kisuzze) as a man of high reputation basing on the office he holds in Makerere University, and at his church as the ‘head of Laity’.
Senkeezi added that Kisuzze will not be able to interfere with the investigations basing on the fact that they are already underway, almost complete. In the presence of Njoroge (complainant), the magistrate revealed that hearing of the case will resume on 28th May 2018.
Kisuzze’s release has come following his arrest at Wandegeya police station (13th April) who was later transferred to Luzira prison on 4th May.
