A bunch of Makerere University students thought that the guild president Ivan Bwowe and his cabinet are not living up to their expectations. The aggrieved students have formed another cabinet, which is preferably known as the shadow cabinet. These cabinet is carrying out its activities without the knowledge and consent of the university. It was formed by Boniface Mbabazi and ex convict. Mbabazi who was contesting under the NRM flag was arrested and dismissed from the race for forging academic qualifications. During a phone interview with Campusbee, Mbabazi said that, Ivan Bwowe and his cabinet are doing a wonderful job but he still thinks something somewhere is lacking. “There are some rules that are affecting the students off campus but Bwowe only focuses on students on campus and forgets those off campus,” he said. He went on and said that he is going to work so hard in order to get on board and partner with the Ugandan government, parliament and the University management so that their duties as a shadow cabinet are recognized and appreciated. Agnes a 3rd year B. Stat student said that it is good for the campus to have shadow cabinet members who are ready to commit themselves to making the University a better place. “The recognised cabinet has failed to meet the guild standards, they just blindfolded us and we elected them but here we are suffering in the aftermath, students graduate and fail to get their transcripts, other government students are not given their faculty allowances. If the shadow cabinet can work on the issues that bother the students then I am sure in the end, the shadow cabinet will actually turn to be the real cabinet,” the student told this writer..
