Two former students of Makerere University have asked that Professor William Bazeyo be ejected from the race of the next Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration.
The alumni identified as Sam Ninsiima and Amos Werikhe claim that Bazeyo lacks credible qualifications.
Through their lawyers, Birungi Nalunkuma Advocates, they allege that Prof Bazeyo, who is the Ag DVC i/c Finance and Administration obtained his PhD from Hawaii based Atlantic International University which is not accredited by agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education.
According to Monica Birungi, the alumni’s lawyer, her clients have on several occasions raised the matter to the university management which then asked the petitioners to address the issue to the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
They subsequently did.
However, on July 29, Dr.Pius Achanga, the acting Director of Quality Assurance and accreditation at National Council for Higher Education noted that the University in question was not recognized by the council.
According to Dr. Deus Kamunyu, the chairperson of the Makerere University Staff Association ( MUASA), the revelation of academic credibility of one of the applicants is serious and of great concern.
