The Makerere University guild caretaker government has appointed and immediately sworn in a new Electoral Commission Chairman to man the now stagnant guild election after the position fell vacant when the previous occupant Peter Makumbi resigned amidst allegation of bribery in the commission to have non-qualified candidates nominated.
Headed by the dean of students Mr. Cyriaco Kabagambe, the caretaker government that also consists of the former guild speaker and now Ag. Guild President Jothan Yamureebire Burobuto, his deputy and the guild patronness (guild mama), the committee appointed Kenneth Isabirye a former guild aspirant to man the remaining bit of the electoral process.
Isabirye is a 5th year Veterinary Medicine student that had an unsuccessful run at the guild office last year and is a resident of Livingstone Hall.
He has previously manned an election like this before when he was appointed, still by the caretaker government, to oversee the re-election at the School of Education in the highly anticipated Bazil Mwotta – Ssemboga Roy showdown in 2016.
Makumbi, the former E.C chairman’s competence came under question when it was discovered that some candidates had been nominated with visible retakes in several course units when the qualification calls for a minimum CGPA of 2.8 and NO pending retake.
His resignation paved way for this process that saw Isabirye appointed.
