The MAK VARSITY AWARDS whose theme is “motivate to inspire” is an event awarding the most outstanding individuals or groups in various categories in the society. The event that took place on Thursday night was a success as it was one of its kind. Distinguished guests included Richard Byarugaba, the NSSF ExecutiveDirector, Dr. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, the Governor of Bank of Uganda and Captain Mike Mukula who was the Chief Guest. Different representatives from other organizations were also invited.
Different awards were given to various categories such as the Leadership award which went to Aseru Sarah, the Interactive Entertainment Personality Award which was awarded to Bebe Cool, the Media Broadcast Personality award was awarded to Derrick Ssenyonga, the Project of the year award which was awarded to Mugaga Julius for the Hopi Track. Among other winners included Venescius Kizza, Campus vibe and Allen Kagina.
Flight Captain Mike Mukula gave inspirational quotes as he said that Makerere University is an institution if which continued to be invested in will change Uganda tremendously. He added: “78% of Uganda’s population is below 30 years of age and in few years to come, Africa will be the leading continent as far as human capital and economic growth are concerned.”
The 81st Guild headed by David Bala is the initiator of this event and intend to make it an annual one. Voting was done by students and the general public.
Mike Mukula praised the Governor of Bank Of Uganda, saying that he is one of the most brilliant economists in the world, and went on to commend Richard Byarugaba for job well done as he is the brain behind the radical change in N.S.S.F. “Mutebile has managed to keep the dollar stable as compared to how other currencies keep on deflating.” He said that given the fact that Makerere University, the best in East and Central Africa, and then third best in Africa, it will bring up the young and therefore young people should not be ignored as they build for the future.
Byarugaba made important remarks saying that the research that is archived should in fact be put into practice instead of just being kept because it is the innovative research that will make Uganda and Africa at large take a step ahead.
