Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) Makerere chapter students yesterday beat police at its game and proceeded to visit Mukono Municipality MP Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke after several attempts by the said police to curtail them.
The students, who all wore red ribbons visited MP Nambooze at her hospital bed.
They were joined by opposition strongman and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who has also been recently a regular target of the police.
And like they did with Mityana Municipality MP Zaake, the students carried gifts like flowers, groceries and a the university red gown that they offered to her.
Nambooze has been hospitalised ever since the incidence on September 27th when security personnel of the elite Special Forces that are responsible for the president’s security swang into parliament and roughed up suspended members of parliament out of the chambers for alleged misconduct.
The students maintain that they will keep visiting the MPs to stand in solidarity with them and appreciate their contribution towards the fight against the ammendment to art. 102 (b) of the constitution of Uganda.
“These MPs are heroes and we have to express our gratitude towards them on behalf of all Ugandans”, Yosam Bagumirabingi, one of the students said.
Efforts to get a comment from the Makerere Police that tried to stop them were futile as the officers’ known numbers went suprisingly unaswered.
