Jothan Yamurebire Burobuto, the Speaker of the 81st Students’ Guild of Makerere and Ag. Guild President of the defunct 82nd Guild addressed media Houses today about the ongoing Non-Teaching Staff strike.
Accompanied by several Students and Student leaders notable among whom was Musherura Daniel, the Nkrumah Hall GRC, Mr. Burobuto stood in solidarity with the non-teaching staff calling their action a genuine and justified one.
“(The non-teaching staff) You have our support and will continue to have it until the President denies having authored the alleged letter of September 2015 …because we believe in honesty and since Government made a promise to you, they should adhere.” – read part of the statement read out to the media by the Ag. Guild President.
However, there is a catch. He also reminded the non-teaching staff that the Semester is almost opening and the students body will not be party of disagreements between the Central Government and her employees. That is when he called upon the Government and the leadership of the Non-Teaching Staff Union to come to agreements and not affect Students.
If the situation goes beyond 6th August, he called upon all concerned parties and the general public to join in on 8th August at the Makerere Freedom Square (8:30 AM) as a march to State House is underway.
