The Ivory Tower’s Freedom Square was on Friday awash with freshmen as newly admitted students filled it up for orientation. As a cultural norm, this was attended by the students guild led by Kato Paul whose words of wisdom literally left freshers craving to be like him when “they grow up.”
While addressing the freshmen, he warmly welcomed them to the institution where they’ll sit with ministers, CEOs, MDs, celebrities etc as coursemates. He, however, cautioned them [freshers] not to bow to the standards of such prominent persons.
“Don’t fight to look like someone by purchasing trendy cloths, hiring cars or clubbing. You are too vulnerable to be taken by such small things that’ll force you to misuse your tuition. Refuse to be taken advantage of,” Kato advised.
This mega orientation was also attended by Mr Stephen Kateega the Deputy Dean of Students who introduced the freshers to the three university challenges–that is; Age, Gender and Infrastructure. He then equipped them with abilities to live with different age groups at the university, manage opposite sex relationships and inquire on how certain infrastructures are operated like computers, modern flashing toilets among others.
Welcome to the hill of the learned.
