Following a complaint by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration at Makerere University, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe to the Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura, the University has decided to close Online Result System and suspension on issuance of academic transcripts. The university has also pinned information alerting graduates that they will not be able to get their testimonials because the whole results system is down.
According to Nawangwe, Makerere was forced to shut down this system after finding out that some staff members from the academic Registrar’s office were altering students’ marks. This system has been accessed through students logging in using their registration numbers as well as members of the academic registrar’s office who post the results.
At the moment no one is allowed to access this system apart from Police IT specialists who are investigating the matter as two prime suspects Christopher Ntwatwa and Mike Barongo are still in police custody while investigations take place.
It should be noted that the university also suspended Joyce Namusoke the Assistant Registrar in the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Science following various complaints that students marks have been tampered with.
This is the major reason why the university’s academic Registrar withdrew 50 names from the graduation list among the just graduated Students in the 67th ceremony just a few days to the event.
