The second semester that began last Saturday has already started boiling up before serious academic business commences at the Ivory Tower.
It began with the School of Law management withdrawing services rendered to the evening classes after the University failed to remunerate to the responsible lectures the agreed upon allowances.
Latest news from the hill of the Learnt indicates that the Journalism Department has also followed suit. A letter has been released by Dr William Tayeebwa, the Head of the Department declaring the decision undertaken by his staff. According to this letter addressed to the Principal, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences failed to honor its promise of over time allowances to the lecturers who take on evening classes.
The letter goes ahead to explain how this first step will only affect undergraduate evening program students and the committee is set to meet and decide on the fate of the graduate evening program students. Dr Tayeebwa in this letter henceforth advises the affected students to join their coursemates on the day program.
This leaves the situation hanging just like at Law School where a solidarity decision has been taken by the students’ association for the day program students to boycott all the lectures until their evening colleagues are served with justice.
What will the Journalism and Communication students do?
