In a drive to ensure safety of Makerere University community, the Guild leaders yesterday launched another security awareness week.
The event that took place in the University Hall was officiated by the, Mr Kasibante (O.C Makerere Police post) flanked by Roy Ssemboga (Guild President), a couple of members of the Guild Representative Council (GRC) and chairpersons of halls of residence.
The guild minister for security, Nicholus Aijuka, said the week is very important to the lives of everyone in the university.
“The Makerere Security Awareness is aimed at bridging the gap between the security personnel and the students through different approaches and favorable platforms on which everyone does business in comfort, controlling human trafficking and theft around campus as well as hostels and how best such scenarios can be sorted without shedding blood,” Aijuka explained.
During the meeting, issues of national interest like combating terrorism in the country as well as self defense were also discussed.
So, for the whole of this week, security officers together with students’ leaders will be passing around different halls and hostels as scheduled by the Ministry of Security sensitizing about the issue.
Students will be required to present different projects with respect to the security improvement such as mobile applications and verbal presentations.

Insecurity in Makerere has been on increase in the recent past with most students being robbed of their laptops, phones, monies while others even lose their lives.
The epitome of the security awareness week will be on 23 October, and will take place in the Freedom square with guests that will include the President of Uganda.
