Spearheaded by the Makerere University Academic staff Association (MUASA)chairman Dr.Kiggundu Muhammed, the lecturers have planned to stage a lay-down-tools strike if their co-lecturers or call them assistant lecturers are not well facilitated and confirmed.
MUASA claims these junior lecturers do a lot in the teaching process at the institution but are meagerly facilitated. They also say that most of these assistants have met all the requirements needed for their confirmation and recognition(upper grading) but the University administration in charge of this process is taking slow and almost no steps towards this.
The Academic staff has thus given the University administration an 8 day ultimatum to either facilitate and confirm these assistants or they Lay down their teaching tools and fight for the rights of their fellow staff.
The eight day ultimatum is up to Wednesday next week. We’ll keep you posted about all the developing enhancements towards the story.
